Tell us something about the store owner-the brain behind the brand?

The company was started by Puru Gupta and Sreejith Moolayil. Puru Gupta, a first-generation entrepreneur, comes from a defense background and a corporate experience spanning across multinationals, including P&G, ITC, CSC & Cognizant. An alumni of FMS, Delhi (MBA, Marketing), and Pune University (BE, E&TC), he has a diverse experience across India and China, including consulting engagements with local companies from China and Africa, non-profit orgs, MNCs & govt. Rated as a top expert in marketing, he also helps brands for entry in Indian market and GTM strategies for India. Puru is based out of Mumbai.

Sreejith Moolayil, a first-generation entrepreneur, comes with a diverse experience of more than 12 years in HR and Law, having worked previously with Cognizant, Tata Motors and Delphi TVS. His last assignment was working as a Head HR with Cognizant, Pune. An Alumnus of Symbiosis IMS (MBA, HR) with Masters in Labour Law from Pune University and LLB from Mangalore. His focus areas are IT & Manufacturing. He is an expert in Chinese market, having headed China HR operations for Cognizant. Sreejith is based out of Pune.

How did you come up with the idea of creating your own store?

We have been working on an e-commerce store for the past 1.5 years. Getting the right healthy alternatives has always been a challenge for us. We realized that there are a lot of good products and services that we could get, spread awareness around them and sell online. This not only ensures awareness around health but also ensures availability to our end customer.

What is so unique about your online store?

We are the 3rd biggest health platform and the only platform that has healthier alternatives verified by dietitians and nutritionists. We have over 3500+ products and services, and plan to ramp up to 10000 products in the next 2 months.

What were the major challenges did you face while starting up?

We had to move from Volusion, so this transition was quite difficult. While we had a lot of new features offered by Kartrocket, there was a learning curve we had to go through, to ensure that our run rate of orders is not impacted significantly.

Any learning you want to share with fellow entrepreneurs?

Mumbai based Hotshops.in was conceptualized in early 2013 and finally launched in February this year by Aditya Salvi, an alumnus of the New York Institute of Technology, Manhattan, NY, USA. Prior to this entrepreneurial venture, Aditya has worked at Times Internet Ltd & Putumayo World Music. His interests include charcoal sketching, mixing music and sports.

How did you come up with the idea of creating your own store?
Several small & medium sized retailers in Mumbai are very well known for their in-house specialty items, but they were not venturing into the online space, primarily because it was not their core area of expertise. This was the gap, which Aditya is filling up by providing an online presence for these retailers. The idea was further validated by the positive response received by a number of specialty retailers who have signed up with Hotshops.in.

What is so unique about your online store?
Hotshops.in acts as curators of couture & retail wherein they handpick retailers and products that they would like to showcase – items that are unique with a fashion sense. Hotshops.in currently handles the online listing, shipping & social media for several known boutiques of the Oberoi Shopping Arcade & in the up market Colaba area in Mumbai, which deal in Handicrafts, Leather bags & shoes. The listed items are authentic and of very high quality standards – thus, they are expensive. The Oberoi shopping arcade boasts of the kind of handicraft and semi-precious jewelry, which is hard to find anywhere else. Hotshops.in is working closely with these specialty shops to help reach out to a wider global audience with the best deals possible. What were the major challenges did you face while starting up?
The idea of Hotshops.in was very well received by several small & medium sized retailers that specialized in Leather jackets, handbags, shoes, etc. However, among the challenges we face, the first is to be able to grab the eyeballs of customers who shop online through advertising and secondly to build their trust. This is where we are putting our current efforts in.

How did you come up with the idea of creating your own store?
Few good things are born out of frustration and yet this initiative is one of them. As owners of three lovely dogs in India, we faced a constant battle to procure good supplies for our fur kids. Most available food in India was of such low quality that no pet owner in right mind would feed it. They were manufactured by big corporations whose main aim was profit maximization. No one cared that our dogs were not supposed to have grain in his food. No one really listened to our complaints of increased Vet visits due to poor ingredients. The best available in India was just not good enough. We were left with no other option!

What is so unique about your online store?
We are India’s first pet health store. We source the best possible pet foods and supplies from across the world and deliver directly to our customer’s doorstep. At Dogkart.in, we carry only those brands of pet food, which are considered to be best in the world.

What were the major challenges did you face while starting up?
Setting up a supply chain which was responsive was a huge challenge. We struggled initially to find the right partners. To make pet parents realize the intricacies of pet nutrition is another thing that continues to be a challenge.

How did you come up with the idea of creating your own store?

E-commerce is on the boon right now, we wish to make The Purple Sack everybody’s brand. Each person should own something or the other from our brand. During her college days, Tanvi Gupta used to design bags. There she realized that she can make her love for bags and accessories to the next level and launch her own line of bags, the coolest and the most extreme DIY project. After lots of sleepless nights, market research, she put up a great show at a popular Flea market in Delhi. The response was awesome and she knew that it was just a starting.

What is so unique about your online store?

We are a one-stop accessory hub. From ethnic to western to club wear we have it all-accessories you can’t afford not to buy.

What were the major challenges did you face while starting up?

Website building up, understanding it and looking at the interface from a customers point of view. Defining your website at every point, pictures, categories, background menu color how carefully everything is to be chosen. Any learning you want to share with fellow entrepreneurs?: Make a plan and follow it religiously. Take one step at a time, but do it sincerely.

Hey Baggu is a unit of Soni enterprises founded by two cousin brothers , Anmol Pathela and Vikas Soni. Mr. Vikas Soni as a businessman from last 16 years comes in collaboration with Anmol, having 5 years of experience as an Analyst.

How did you come up with the idea of creating your own store?

One evening I (Anmol) was sitting with two of my friends who were into the business of punjabi juttis and Suits. Simply they expressed their wish to go online, but were upset because of lack of knowledge. The vary next day I saw Kartrocket’s Advertisement. Now the jigsaw was automatically solved, vendors and store was ready in front of me. I discussed with my elder brother Vikas Soni and he said lets do it!

Hey Baggu means Hey! Bhagwan.

What were the major challenges did you face while starting up?

Main thing we need in online stores is building a trust and worthy relationship with customer. So currently we are just focusing on that, offering 30 days replacement policy and Cash on delivery.

Any learning you want to share with fellow entrepreneurs?

If you really give customers a great experience, they will tell their friends and they’re much more likely to come back to you. So ‘walk the talk’. If there’s anything worse than bad service, it’s being told how great the service is, then finding out the opposite is true.
